Author: // 30-Nov-2011 12:08

Our alumnus Mieke Cuppen won the Mercure Cultuurprijs. This was announced on Tuesday November 29 during the Award evening at Mercure Hotel Amsterdam Aan de Amstel. Congratulations!

The assignment was: design a table concept for Mercure hotels. Central within this is the entire tableware for a dining table – from the crockery to the table linen, the candlesticks to the cutlery. In September 2011 Mieke and two other contestants (also Sander Lucas, alumnus Design Academy Eindhoven) were selected out of 62 designers. They were given € 2500,- each to develop a prototype of their concept.

Mercure: “Mieke’s winning design 'Ambigu' is assessed entirely as elegant and beautiful. Mieke choose beautiful colors, the design is tranquile, she has considered the functionality and the cutlery is innovative.”

Mercure hotels intends to have the winning concept produced and used in all its hotels in the Netherlands, in whole or in part. Mieke will also receive a return air ticket to Sydney, Australia, including seven nights accommodation in the Mercure Sydney Potts Point Hotel and access to the city’s most important museums.
