Proposals for a broader use of date trees. Instead of just using the fruits, the wood can be used for construction and woodwork.

WHY
In Israel, dates are a holy crop and also a booming industry, with the fruit exported to countries around the world. But the country imports nearly all of its wood products. While the fruit is eaten and the leaves are used for decoration, tons of leftover material remain after harvesting. Dan Porat wonders why the tree’s value doesn’t extend beyond food or the spiritual.

HOW
Dan has made a video of his investigation and designed a series of objects made from the tree and bark. ‘Tamar’ intends to change perceptions and introduce a wider range of thought on the abundance that is locally available.
