FLESH ARTIFACTS

WHAT
Visitors are invited to wear one of Marica De Michele’s body-modified wearables: a hand-eye glove, a foot-eye sock or a neck-eye scarf. They allow users to explore a new perception of their own body, and self, in relation to their surroundings.

WHY
With sensory augmentation, the viewer remains just an observer. But ‘Flesh Artifacts’ offers a complementary, active experience: wearing them gives you the physical sensation of having sight elsewhere than in the eyes.

WOW
These prosthetics allow for new visual perspectives. These are displayed in real time on screens in a three-channel film installation. The content is generated from the movements of the person wearing Marica’s artificial body parts.

QUOTE
How does it feel to see the world with your hand, foot or neck?
