HOME POST HOME

WHAT
Architectural archetypes, such as a threshold, window and wall, that reflect our modern experience of home as a hybrid of multiple geographic contexts.

WHY
Increasing migration is provoking a shift in our concepts of home and belonging, especially in relation to the temporary spaces we inhabit. Today, home as a utopia is unattainable for most. Yet, it is also suggested everywhere through the commodification of the feeling of home. And so it is time to redraw the archetypes that we have in our minds.

HOW
By merging standard Polish and Dutch housing elements, Karolina Michalik explores ‘familiar’ and ‘foreign’ ideas of what the notion of home entails. Her hybrids offer a means to step away from set concepts and engage with alternatives.

QUOTE
Exploring the fluid boundary between the 'Heimlich' and 'Unheimlich' of the modern home.
