A system that combines 3D scan technologies with the tactile possibilities of knitting to create responsive textile patterns.

WHY
In the area of knitted orthopaedic devices, we find an impoverished design scenario based on a standardised understanding of the body, even though all bodies are unique, as are their motion patterns. The body is not considered from the start of the design process.

HOW
‘Tailored Bond’ proposes a tailored-to-fit system based on software that translates data from a 3D MRI scan into a code for a knitting machine to understand. Parameters such as stiffness, compression, elasticity, texture, warmth and transpiration find material translation into a knitted customised brace.
