FEED THE FLESH: FOOD GUILT IN FOUR ACTS

WHAT
A play that addresses the topic of ‘food guilt’. This is the guilt we feel when eating foods that we believe we shouldn’t for ethical, health, environmental, or cosmetic reasons.

HOW
Two protagonists dramatise two conflicting motivations when it comes to food choices: the ‘societal’ and the ‘carnal’. Smells such as fresh bread and bacon function as sensory props, helping to induce a ‘gut-level’ audience experience. The script incorporates a range of personal, academic and anecdotal research.

WHY
In a world of abundance, the balance between desire and responsibility in choosing what we eat can become a daily conundrum. This play invites us to take a look inside ourselves and the conflicts that underlie our dietary decisions.

QUOTE
We need to take an introspective look at what influences our food choices.
