Solo exhibition of Wood Ring by DAE alumnus Chris Kabel. You can visit his exhibition from March 8th until May 2nd 2012 at Galerie Kreo in Paris (France).
Wood Ring: a 10 meter long massive wood beam is cut up in a hundred tapered pieces that, when put together, make a circular bench. A metal band clamps the pieces together without glue. Because the bench is made out of one solid beam the wood grain continues along the bench.
The wood grain that once continued all along the tree from its root to its top has come full circle. Stepping into the circle, one feels embraced by this giant organism. The circular bench is a place for free-flowing thoughts that can be shared without hesitation. It’s a bit like sharing a bath in the sauna, but then without having to get wet or naked...
