About the Rotterdam Design Prize 2013 – Student essay assignment:

"Special focus in this edition is on reinforcing the dialogue with the public and on highlighting the importance of reflection and design criticism.

For the first time, ‘Stichting Rotterdam Designprijs’ will cooperate with various design courses. All participating students will receive the same essay assignment. It is the variety of visions on design being present in one prize that will serve as a welcome starting point for formulating your own opinion. The Rotterdam Design Prize will challenge students to form their own opinion, practice in writing and to start a dialogue with visitors to test what works.

The essay assignment reads as follows:
Concretize your vision in up to 500 words, about the state of Dutch design, on the occasion of the nominations for the Rotterdam Design Prize."
