One of our Bachelor students in the Man and Public Space department, Sander Manse, has won the Simon Mari Pruys prize on 20 March. His essay 'Wat doet het model' (What the model does) was chosen as the best design critic out of 61 submitted articles.

The Simon Mari Pruys Prize for design criticism and the Geert Bekaert Prize for architecture criticism are awarded by ArchiNed and Design Platform Rotterdam. The prizes are given out alternately every other year for excellent examples of written criticism in the fields of design and architecture in the Low Countries that promote a vibrant design culture.

David Hamers, lector City and Countryside Design Academy Eindhoven:"This is an exceptional achievement! It is special for a bachelor student to win a prize for design criticism. As Design Academy Eindhoven we claim to shape and define design, and the new master design curating and writing will start in september. Sander has proven that we are not only designers, but also researchers and critics."

Hans van der Markt, Coordinator department Man and Public Space: "I am very happy there is a prize that carries the name of Simon Mary Pruys. He is one of the pioneers in design debate and critisism and still has a wide impact now. I congratulate Sander Manse, may he be an inspiration to many!"

On the website of OntwerpSchrijfKunst you can read the jury's comments on Manse's essay.
