A CHAIR TO BE MADE ON A SMALL AND LARGE SCALE
Jakob Hohmann has created Kavex, a chair out of thermoplastics,
a material that liquefies at room temperature. When it does so,
it can be poured into a mould. By pouring in the seat and the
back parts first and then closing the mould, this plate material
will bend into the desired shape. The molten polymer can then
melt into the seat and back, turning the result into something that
is strong enough to be formed into a sturdy, yet light chair. This
production process renders any additional joints unnecessary. It
can be applied both in small studios and in large-scale industrial
production.
