A HOSPITAL BED CAN LOOK LIKE A PIECE OF FURNITURE

The number of elderly people will increase rapidly over the coming years. They will stay at home longer, using care that will come to their homes. Frederique Hesp has created Living Room Bed: a bed for seniors that looks like a piece of domestic furniture. ‘Elderly people who have to take to their beds do not want a hospital bed in their living room. It will only bring unwanted associations with illness, physical impairment and old age.’ Her living room bed measures 52 centimetres in height, allowing easy access. A top grip will help the user get in or out and will help them roll over in the bed. The electrically adjustable bedspring can be covered with fabrics and colours matching the user’s interior.
