HARD AND SOFT IN ONE SOFA
People need to feel in control. Through transformation, force,
and manipulation we try to influence coincidence and natural
behaviour. With Curb, Karlijn Kuipers exposes this tendency.
She has twinned natural shapes with accentuated lines in her
sofa. The soft, organic mass, made up of layers of wool, cotton
and horsehair, erupts into a hard wooden oblong. The thin
fabric spanning the whole shape is reminiscent of a skin. People
sitting down on this couch may choose hard, soft, controlled, or
uncontrolled.
