DESIGN SO THE PROCESS IS A PART OF THE PRODUCT

‘The production process for tableware is at least as interesting as the end product is’, Maaike Seegers believes, ‘it’s just that as a user, you would not normally see it’. In Meltware, process and product collide. The bowl, the jar and the spoon made of stoneware are not just pieces of tableware, but they are also moulds to extend your set. The rest of the service is created out of Carnauba wax, a hard, natural, and waterproof wax made from palm trees. By heating this up in a flame-proof pan, it will liquefy and can be poured into the moulds to create new cups, plates, bowls and spoons. With Meltware you will make exactly as many as you need, so your kitchen cabinets will never be crammed with stacks of unused tableware.
