Oturakast

Rianne Koens was inspired to design her Oturakast (otur is Turkish for ‘please sit down’) by the tradition of hospitality at her Turkish in-laws’ house, where there is always room for unexpected guests. This chest provides an elegant improvement on the typical Dutch interior, which typically is not very well-suited for surprise visits. Made of lightweight tulip wood, the chest consists of small detachable drawers, partially covered with nubuck and suede. Fitted with legs that fold out, all of the drawers are instantly convertible into compact but stylish stools. When the guests have left, the stools can be folded back and stacked again just as quickly.
