The Lost City

Every city loses buildings to war, fire, demolition or deterioration. The Lost City is a collection of miniatures of monumental structures that have disappeared from the urban landscape. They were inspired by the phenomenon of conversation pieces: curios deployed to stimulate conversation. In this case, however, they serve as ‘conservation pieces’, i.e., to keep the memory of such buildings alive. “In this digital age, I find it important to make memories tangible,” says René Vullings. “What cemeteries do as places of remembrance for those who once lived somewhere, the Lost City does for buildings that once stood somewhere.”
