Hang On
The project Hang On resulted from Tom Dissel’s frustration when he realised that large furniture chains use leather primarily as a wrapping material. “Leather is very strong, flexible and sustainable; it should determine the design and character of the furniture,” says Dissel. He tanned the leather personally at Hulshof Royal Dutch Tanneries. He left the natural scars and grain on the skins. His chair is made of one piece of leather that has been folded around a frame. The leather is the actual construction, making additional materials such as foam rubber unnecessary. In Hang On the material plays a leading role instead of being secondary to the design.
