From buildings to bags
For Charlotte Marabelle, the parallels between architecture and bags are numerous. Both embody a transition from the personal to the public realm, and from inside to outside. Both also share a structural, functional and aesthetic quality. Inspired by this analogy, she explores what happens when you transfer the vocabulary of buildings onto bags. Even emptied of daily belongings, the leather bags remain solid enough to stand upright, like a building or furniture that becomes part of the interior landscape. The space inside remains undefined – an abstract area open to different specific needs. Charlotte worked with craftswomen Alice Delimal and Noémie Segretain to shape the leather into the desired forms.
