Refugees have a lot to offer. Yet their individual talents tend to be overshadowed by their circumstances. With ‘50/50’, Janna Meijer seeks to change this. This programme brings refugees and Dutch designers together, integrating their cultures and skills in a series of products. Half of each piece is designed by local designers; refugees contribute their vision to the rest. Blank lampshades tell a story in traditional stitches, custom weavings transform clock faces, while coffee tables get colourful with mosaic inlays. Locals and newcomers alike add value to every piece, connecting and learning from each other as they work.
