Instead of perceiving elephant tusks as a treasured material for jewellery, why not use human teeth for the same purpose? How personal can jewellery be? Lucie Majerus explores these questions by turning her own wisdom teeth into pearls. As the ingredients of our molars are almost identical to ivory, ‘Human Ivory’ suggests harvesting our own precious material for a very personal and growing collection. The thought of it may be creepy at first, but most will come around at the sight of these pearl earrings, bracelet, ring, cufflinks and tie pin. The designer becomes a tooth fairy who turns a moment of loss into a more positive one.
