Lumps of Clay

What is the smallest possible action that can exist in terms
of design? In ‘Lumps of Clay’ Thomas Nathan examines
the infinite possibilities of tiny bits of clay. Pressed between
mould and finger, each piece literally bears the individual
imprint of the maker: the direct result of personal interaction
with the material.
Slowly built up one lump at a time, each object is systematically
instilled with the self. It is a back-to-basics journey promoting
the virtue of serenity and restraint. Here, humble beginnings
can still bring complex forms and an experience far richer than
that which comes from pressing a button, or twisting a knob.
The need to make is very human, and our hands are the most
satisfying tools.
