Sense
Imagine the world of a premature baby in an infant incubator: instead of forming a strong bond with their mother in her womb, they are in hard and noisy surroundings. Every check-up, drip and bleep disturbs their development, and increases the risk of problems later in life. Rebekka Evita Strenk proposes a new approach that does not start at life-saving technologies, but with the child’s experience. Her toolbox is meant to inspire everyone involved to make that change. Two layers, one representing the current situation and the other the desired one, demonstrate the logic of the design she is working on now: a soft and protective external womb that stimulates the bonding process for the best chance at life.
