Hou Vast

With her eight-minute film ‘Hou Vast’, Evie Sparidaens offers informal carers of Alzheimer’s patients something to hold onto. Through the personal story of her grandmother and aunt, Evie charts the progression of the disease and subsequent care, and all the experiences and emotions that patients and their carers encounter along the way. A geriatrician provides factual medical information and support, but has the benefit of professional distance. Caregivers, often family members or spouses, can feel alone and overburdened. This movie shows them there are others who face the same difficulties. It also acts as a guide for prospective carers.
