Pitter-Patter-Splish-Splash

James Teng loves rain; the way it sounds, smells, feels — everything. He has woven his favourite properties of rain together in a series of handcrafted capes. “It rains a lot in Asia, and these capes simulate the sense of rain,” he explains. Silver-coloured thread incorporated into the fabric re-creates the reflection of light in raindrops; overlapping shingles of wood and clear plastic rattle when worn, like rain hitting a rooftop; and thick, soft mohair adds a mellow, water-like weight. The collection, called Pitter-Patter-Splish-Splash, is a modern take on traditional Asian rainwear.
