WHAT
A cabinet that explores the evolution of contemporary making, showing that the 3D printer is just another tool for the creation of craft objects.

WHY
Many people view traditional crafts and additive manufacturing as opposites, but not Aaron Garlick. Defining craft as ‘handmade’ is a mistake, he says. After all, haven’t artisans always used tools to make their products?

HOW
These 3D-printed miniatures are detailed models of 120 traditional tools that are used to build an old-fashioned wooden cabinet ‘by hand’. The digital technique and the artificial material allow the objects to be scaled down to dollhouse size. Displayed in a polyester resin vitrine with a classic shape, they welcome 3D printing as the next step for contemporary craftsmen.
