Tomorrow on Thursday April 12 Premsela will organize, together with fashion designer Anuj Sharme (from India), a preview for the international conference ‘What Design Can Do’. This preview will be held at Designhuis in Eindhoven. DAE students from department Man & Communication will present a project on prejudices of Eindhoven. In addition, Anuj Sharma will present his work and vision about Indian fashion during the same preview.
‘What Design Can Do’ is an international conference about the impact of design, fashion and architecture in the world. The second edition of this conference will take place in the city theatre of Amsterdam on the 10th and 11th of May 2012. The role of different disciplines in the contemporary society will be discussed. The conference is initiated by Richard van der Laken (co-founder of Designpolitie) and is sponsored by Premsela, DutchDFA, Design Cooperation Brainport, BNO and NAi.
DAE students will talk about specific characteristics and similarities of large cities during the preview of What Design Can Do. They will answer the question: What happens if we leave our ‘social design hat’ at home and make contact with people on the street to discover their problems? Students questioned themselves about Eindhoven: “On the one hand some might just think of the ‘Dutch Design Week’ or even the ‘Glow Festival’, on the other hand Eindhoven is just another big city, with real people, their everyday life and everyday problems. What are these problems and why would they matter? What are the things that you see and really care about and why are they worthwhile sharing with others? If you could do something about it, what would that be?”
