Dutch Invertuals presents 'Retouched' from 17 untill 22 April during Salone del Mobile 2012.
Dutch Invertuals is a collective of individual designers who are always in search of the limits of their profession. They present pieces that reflect their contemporary viewpoints in images, objects, materials, insights and stories.
Cryptographer & Encoded Textiles
A personal message is more and more often sent digitally. Intangible, floating in the air, only readable on a screen. The Cryptographer generates pattern by translating words to a pattern code. Bleached into fabric the message becomes tangible. Invisible words, with a physical impact. Controlled by text messaging each character is transformed into a specified icon, resulting in ever changing patterns, depending on the users input. The final software and interface is developed in collaboration with Remon van den Eijnden and Peter Bust.
System Synthetics
Dutch Invertuals presents within the exhibition Retouched: System Synthetics. This is the last project developed by Officina Corpuscoli. DAE alumnus Maurizio Montalti is founder and director of “Officina Corpuscoli”. Maurizio Montalti graduated from department Conceptual Design in context in 2010. 'System Synthetics' is a design-research project, born as a reaction to the current attitudes of production and implementation of traditional synthetic/toxic materials, which many designers and companies, all around the world, keep adopting extensively. Faced by the grand contradiction of implementing toxic, unsustainable materials for the development of new and often unnecessary goods, the designer switches his role, turning from creator of products to researcher; this, by looking for alternative ways and strategies to allow such immortal materials (plastics), re-enter the cycle of every existing thing. Within this framework, 'System Synthetics' becomes a statement to the design field, and represents an exploration into the possibility of collaborating with micro-organisms, within processes of deconstruction and cyclical trans-mutation.
