Tuesday September 4, the opening of the new academic year took place! At the same time, Design Academy Eindhoven celebrated its 65th Anniversary.
Floor 5 was packed when Igor van Hooff (Director Operations) welcomed everybody. Students, teachers, employees, Friends and other business relations of the academy all gathered that afternoon to attent 'Symparty', a symposium and party! The turn-out was very good, the bar was working overtime to provide everybody with refreshing drinks.
Lecture Guten Appetit XL
After Igor's introduction, moderator Jason Page (student and chief editor of SNOR student magazine) introduced Martin Hablesreiter, one half of the Austrian design duo working under the name of Honey & Bunny. Hablesreiter and Stummerer studied food production and food design for years. Struck by the notion that the desire to design food is what differs humans from all other beings, they became interested in the fields of gastronomy, food marketing, psychology, cultural history, and physics. ‘People should talk about food as an aspect of culture, as the most important good, as business, as a design product of daily life.’
Who's cooking what?
After this interesting and entertaining lecture, everybody was starting to feel a little hungry and entered the rear part of floor 5, where a 4 course walking dinner was served. DAE teachers and employees teamed up to prepair hundreds of dinner courses; big up for them!
The whole process of food preparing and serving went very very smooth - they did a great job and the food tasted delicious.
Feet up in the air!
After dinner, it was time to burn some calories on Ari Daily's (LowLands, Effenaar, Extrema) smooth tunes. A lot of feet went up in the air and the atmosphere was great! Around 23.00 it was time to leave the building and to carry on partying some place else.
