'Cherished Bites'
Cutlery is inspired by people suffering from dementia. By slightly losing their memory, they lose the ability to recognize their cutlery and food while the sensitivity of their senses decreases. During summer holidays Alissa worked at a retirement home. In this way, she got in touch with people suffering from dementia. She saw they had problems with eating. They didn't enjoy it anymore and the cutlery was rather a tool and an awkward barrier. A research starting out of the wish to return the pleasure of eating, with cutlery being closer to the human body, the senses and food. New ways to approach the act of eating, invented by studying the “errors” of our regular cutlery that is making everyone a bit handicapped on its own. 'Cherished Bites' implicates a playful factor, inciting to discovery and stimulates the senses to bring people closer to their food and their own feelings again.

Kader Abdolah talked about his book in the tv programs De Wereld Draait Door and Eva Jinek Op Zondag.
