Alumnus designs the reception of ICEHOTEL
For the fifth time Dutch designer Susan Christianen is part of the creation of the world famous ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi in Swedish Lapland.
In 2008 Susan began her work at ICEHOTEL Art & Design team as an intern. She got inspired by new materials (ice and snow) and different techniques in a surprising new environment and culture. After her graduation she got immediately adopted by ICEHOTEL's Art & Design. This year Susan is asked to design the reception for the season 2012/2013, in which she collaborates with her colleague Lena Kriström.
'Unfold' is the name of the design concept for the reception. The execution of this design concept has been launched November 19 2012. In three intensive weeks the execution will be completed, because it has to be ready for the opening of the ICEHOTEL on Friday December 7 2012.
'Unfold' means to develop, disseminate and reveal (something that was hidden). "When guests enter the ICEHOTEL, the reception is the first thing they see. And this first impression is of course very important. Strong and organic forms of expression are central. It starts with the reception desk, which unfolds at the ceiling and resulting therefrom in the rest of the room. The design will make guests curious about the look and feel of the rest of the ICEHOTEL, where we reveal more design, art and light. This one by one is a new experience.", says Susan.
