Design Academy Eindhoven (DAE) is pleased to announce that following 20 successful years within the walls of the deWitteDame school building on Emmasingel, the 2018 edition of the annual Graduation Show during Dutch Design Week will expand into the former Campina milk factory near the Kanaaldijk-Zuid, Eindhoven.

The annual Graduation Show offers the DAE graduates of that year the opportunity to present their final works to companies, relations of the academy, and to the general public. The show has become such a success that attendance increased over the past few years from some 30,000 to over 51,000 in October 2017. The floors of deWitteDame are not perfectly equipped to accommodate such numbers, leading to regular congestions. As well as being a building of great historical significance, the former Campina milk factory is a substantially larger venue, and is more suited to hosting this increased volume of visitors.

Creative Director Joseph Grima sees the new location as an opportunity to project the exhibition’s successful history into the future. “The relocation will provide us with double the number of square metres, which will do greater justice to the works of our students while creating more room for our visitors at the same time. Moreover, we are no longer forced to temporarily relocate our educational activities to make room for the show. The theme of this year’s exposition will be determined and fleshed out in the next few months. It is expected that some 150 graduates will be showing off their works this year as well.”

Design Academy Eindhoven has concluded an agreement with BDP, owner of the Campina site, for the shows in 2018, 2019 and 2020. In late 2017, this project developer indicated its intention to start construction of homes and other buildings at the site in the future, but to make it available in the meantime for events like the Dutch Design Week. The ROBOT LOVE exhibition will be held at the site this fall as well.

Together with the Dutch Design Foundation, the Design Academy Eindhoven will spend the months ahead working on the connection with the other locations of the Dutch Design Week.
