We are happy to announce the first lecture of 2019 by DAE Design Research!
In this Design Research Lecture, Maurizio Montalti (design researcher at Design Academy Eindhoven, Lectorate Places and Traces) will address one of the major challenges faced by this century: how our current economy can be transformed into an eco-friendly and self-sustaining system. Design Academy Eindhoven (DAE) and its partners recently completed a three-year research project focusing on innovative strategies for cultivating 100% natural materials. This collaboration has explored the use of mycelium to grow designs for a fungal future. Montalti will explain the importance of exploring the qualities and potential of zero footprint materials and the roles designers can play in developing them.
Maurizio Montalti is a multidisciplinary designer, researcher, artist, and engineer interested in life’s bigger picture and its minute details. He believes in the role of the designer as a bridge between different fields of action: science, art, society and industry in particular. His work touches relevant design issues, such as the role design could play in a biotech revolution, its relationship with sustainability and the novel possibilities that this marriage of disciplines could create in a future society.
Professor (Lector) David Hamers from DAE’s Design Research will give a short introduction on DAE’s approach to design research.
The lecture will take place on 07-03-2019.
Doors will open at 19.00 and the lecture will start at 19:30h in the former MU space, 1st floor.
